Flying with a Broken Wing

cover art

This is historical fiction, that is best for tweens or young teens. I think this might appeal to fans of Little House on the Prairie or Anne of Green Gables. It’s too old-fashioned for my personal taste, lacked excitement. I was furious at the aunt, which is intended I supposed but I found her a bit unrealistically dumb and neglectful. Some of the conflict, such as the aunt not wanting her to hang out with her friend is never fully developed. It’s like the author was going for a forbidden friendship, possible Romeo and Juliet scenario and never fully fleshed it out.

Not knowing who your parents truly are, or your family history is a reoccurring theme this year. There is also a lot of books set in the past.
