*I received The Woefield Poultry Collective by Susan Juby as a submission for the YABA
This was a very strange novel, but I respect the author for creating four very distinct voices in her rotating narration. I was least fond of Prudence, even though she’s the one who brings everyone together. It was a bit preachy about the benefits of organics and recycling but that’s OK because it also pokes fun at itself for that by saying the same thing about Prudence’s novel within the novel. All of the characters were very flawed, but that’s what I loved about them. There was not as many laughs as I expected based on the way it was marketed, and there could have been more.
All of the other jury members liked it much more than I did, so it must be a matter of taste.
